Storage On Site is committed to working to plug the desperate hole throughout the Virgin Islands for affordable housing and is in process of proposing a Tiny Home prototype that can withstand the harsh climate of the VI. This concept could also be applied to homeless shelters or post disaster housing needs.
We’re in the design phase now and have tapped into the community at large to assess interest and have determined that it is there. So, hold onto your hat, we are full steam ahead and look forward to rolling out a prototype in 2024.
Given the high construction costs of traditional permanent construction (which we do not expect to change), creative “out of the box” solutions are required to address these pressing needs.
Storage On Site Relief Containers Positioned Throughout the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Storage On Site, LLC was inspired when it read about The American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles "preparing for a catastrophic disaster by placing 80 Red Cross Relief Containers — filled with cots, blankets, water and food for 300 people for up to five days —throughout the L.A. region. Supplies in the 20-foot containers will be used to open Red Cross shelters for people forced to evacuate their homes because of an earthquake or other major disaster. A fully stocked relief container includes cots, blankets, personal hygiene items, water, food, diapers, flashlights, and radios."
We strongly believe this concept should be applied to the VI. Storage On Site has proposed the concept to both FEMA and VITEMA. After Hurricanes Irma and Maria pre-positioning disaster supplies in Storage On Site containers would be a critical component to VITEMA’s Disaster Planning and could assist in providing emergency aid in the aftermath of such crippling hurricanes. Storage On Site has suggested that containers be located at schools, parks and religious institutions, spanning throughout the three islands.
Our containers would serve as mini warehouses full of supplies. The following is an example of the supplies that could be stored:
